food for thought

Mangoes i grew up hearing the phrase "you are what you eat …"

only back then (way back!), people thought that mainly referred to the size of your hips.

but now, with lip glosses and lotions containing ingredients like acai berry, almond extract and shea butter, it is pretty obvious that "you are what you eat" refers to your skin as well. so, in addition to a great skin care routine, why not trying adjusting your diet to produce healthier looking skin.

berries, such as blueberries and blackberries, are an excellent source of antioxidants that your skin needs to stay looking youthful and healthy.

salmon is rich in fatty acids that your skin requires to stay plump and moisturized. if you don't like fish, you can find omega 3 and omega 6 in walnuts and flaxseed.

green tea will stave of free radicals and also acts as an anti-inflammotory.

mangoes are abundant in Vitamin A which will help to aid in skin repair. stock up on this fruit or any other Vitamin A rich foods to reap the benefits.

this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to eating well for your skin. for more information, contact a registered nutritionist or holistic nutritionist to come up with a game plan!

scene+heard: chris hyndman prefers ponds

Stevechris it's funny, but sometimes $$$ doesn't mean it's the best.

fresh.beautiful: the skin studio had the opportunity to rub elbows with Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman of Steven+Chris and several GTA bloggers during a taping of their show yesterday.

not only we were treated to special guest Jenny McCarthy (now she's got great skin!), but we also had lunch and a special q&a with the two talkshow hosts after filming was done. us bloggers had the opportunity to ask any question we wanted, and Ellen M. of Lipstick, Powder 'n' Paint asked them the question all beauty bloggers want to know "what's your favourite beauty product?"

without hesitation, Chris piped up – PONDS COLD CREAM. he mentioned his mother always using Ponds and also compared this tried and true standby to it's really expensive counterpart, Creme La Mer, stating that the latter doesn't do anything different for him. basically, he has great skin thanks to a $9.99 jar of cream!

pretty little peepers

Eye-cream you've heard the saying "defence is the best offence", right?

well, that's how we feel about eye creams. you are never too young to consider using one; whether you're in your 20s or 50s, indulging the skin with a bit of eye cream isn't a bad thing.

you probably think that eye creams are just another "money grab" and that your moisturizer can do the same trick. So why bother?

actually, eye creams are creams tested by opthamologists (people whose job it is to know about your eyes) to ensure they are safe to use around the eye area. they often forego any fragrance and are much more emollient than a regular moisturizer.

regular use of a proper eye cream can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, plus keep the skin around the eye firm.

we love Consonant Body Ultra Moisturizing and Ultra Firming Organic Eye Creams. both formulations are quite rich and have an overall soothing effect on the eyes.  you can also try Philosophy Hope in a Tube, a cult fave, that absorbs well and can be used around the lips as well.
